Cycling in the Bormida Valley is a small privilege: nature, silence, and freedom accompany every curve. The landscape changes rapidly between valley floors, hazelnut groves, woods, and ridges, while stone villages and traces of rural life invite you to slow down.
From the Cortemilia area, you can follow the valley toward Torre Bormida, alternating smooth stretches with steeper climbs. The secondary roads offer glimpses of the river and farmsteads; reaching higher altitudes, the horizon opens up toward Bergolo, Prunetto, and the other towns of the Alta Langa.
Between dirt roads and rural memory
With a gravel or mountain bike, the experience can extend onto dirt roads and through the woods. In Torre Bormida, a stop at the scau, traditional chestnut drying sheds, adds a new dimension to the journey, revealing rural life and the relationship between community and landscape.
There's no single itinerary: distance and elevation gain can be adapted to your available time and fitness level, choosing a short loop through the valleys and villages or a more challenging day on the ridges. E-bikes make climbs more accessible, without sacrificing the joy of discovery.
You can ride independently along a certified trail or with a local guide. Before setting off, it's important to check the terrain, weather, possible closures, and difficulty of the trail, wear a helmet, and choose a bike suitable for the route.
