From the hills to the sea
From some of the hills above the Bormida valley, on a clear day you can see the sea glimmering in the distance. And from the western side of the valley, the seaside resort of Alassio is about an hour and a half away by car, a journey from hills to mountains and down to the coast. This makes the Mediterranean Sea a natural destination, where you can stroll along the promenade, relax on the beach, or enjoy the local cuisine. Then head back in land, with the feeling of having experienced a completely different landscape.
Turin
Travelling 90 minutes in the opposite direction takes you to the city of Turin and a complete change of scenery. A visit here can take in the Royal Museums, a climb to the top of the famous landmark building the Mole Antonelliana, or a tour of the Egyptian Museum, the oldest of its kind in the world. Turin offers piazzas, residences of the noble Savoy family, and a wealth of cultural treasures.
Alba
Alba is one of the nearest places to visit, barely half an hour by car from the valley. It is famous for its white truffles and has been recognised by UNESCO for its gastronomy. The city centre boasts Roman remains, mediaeval towers, and Renaissance palaces. The perfect place for visiting the market, enjoying a leisurely lunch, and strolling through the old town.
Le Langhe
From the Bormida valley, the Langhe is only a forty-minute drive away, a region of Piedmont famous for its wines and cheese. Towns like Barolo and La Morra are surrounded by UNESCO-listed vineyard-covered hillsides, dotted with castles, small villages, and wineries that unite the landscape and wine culture. It is a natural stopping point for anyone who wants to spend a few hours enjoying wine tasting, scenic drives, and quiet strolls in sleep villages.
Acqui Terme
Acqui Terme is just over half an hour away, a spa town know for its ancient springs and relaxing retreats. The Bollente hot spring still rises in the historic centre at a temperature of 74.5°C and Roman remains can be found around the spa, from the thermal pool to the remains of the aqueduct along the Bormida river. Acqui Terme offers wellness, history, and a chance for some peaceful relaxation.
