The Castle, owned by the Municipality, stands on the ridge between the Bormida and Uzzone rivers, 750 meters above sea level. The original structure dates back to the 11th and 12th centuries. The Castle has a trapezoidal layout around a small internal courtyard that served as an impluvium for water collection. The entrance portal, featuring a large pointed arch of squared stone, is reached via a flying bridge that replaces the old drawbridge. Over the centuries, the Castle passed from the Marquises of Vasto to the Del Carretto and Scarampi families. At the end of the 19th century, it was purchased by the Del Corno family, who made modifications and innovations, including the mullioned windows featuring the family coat of arms.
Inside is the MULE MUSEUM, a collection of materials and equipment that were supplied to the Alpine Troops units from the post-World War II period until 1991. The objects that make up the collection (material put out of use when the mules were decommissioned by the Ministry of Defence in 1991) were donated by the Command of the 4th Alpine Army Corps, then commanded by General Luigi Manfredi.
"La Batajera" was once the only access gate to the Castle. It has an ancient square sandstone structure with two arched openings. Today, it is a national monument, like the Castle and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
