Bubbio Castle occupies the rock overlooking the town and the Bormida Valley. Its current appearance combines a surviving medieval tower and a residence rebuilt in neo-medieval style.
The history of the complex reflects the events of the village: the 13th-century castle was severely damaged by the Spanish in 1639 and, in the following centuries, the residential areas were rebuilt and transformed.
What to see
From the outside, you can recognize the medieval tower , the main vestige of the original manor, and compare it with the 19th-century residential building. The difference in the walls makes the destruction and reconstruction visible.
Its position on the rock allows us to understand the control it exercised over the town and the valley roads. The castle's profile is an integral part of the Bubbio landscape.
The complex now houses a hotel and a restaurant. The interior spaces are not open to visitors: to access the rooms, courtyards, or cellars, you must check the offers and book directly with the facility.
