The Tower of San Fermo dominates Merana from a hill overlooking the Bormida di Spigno Valley. Its location immediately illustrates the control function it served in the Middle Ages along a natural corridor between Piedmont and the Ligurian coast.
Restored and made accessible, the tower combines the charm of an isolated fortress with a sweeping view. It can be reached by walking from the village or by approaching the hill along the local road.
What to see
The building has a square base , stone walls, and a height of approximately twenty-five meters. At the top, the decorative arches are visible, reconstructed and consolidated during the restoration work.
From the tower, observe the valley's contours and imagine the connections with the other fortified points. At the foot of the building, there are also rest areas and a panoramic bench.
Digital access to the internal staircase is indicated by the Municipality every day from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm, except for closures or adverse weather conditions. The climb requires caution and is not suitable for those with difficulty navigating steep stairs or narrow spaces.
