Caldera-Saluzzo Castle dominates Monesiglio with the appearance of a grand stately residence. Its current form conceals a long history that began in the Middle Ages and continued through transformations that gradually diminished its defensive function.
The complex recounts the transition from the Caldera family to the Saluzzo family and how a valley castle became a noble palace. The property is undergoing a restoration and enhancement project in 2026.
What to see
From the outside, observe the castle's massive size, its relationship with the slope, and the walls supporting the terrace. The medieval part has undergone significant transformation, but its position retains its function of controlling the town and the valley.
The most precious place is the marquis' chapel , decorated in 1532 by Antonino Occello da Ceva. The frescoes depict the Evangelists, saints, King David, and a series of Sibyls inserted into the perimeter arch.
