Gorrino retains a small fortified hilltop village, clustered around the castle and the church of San Pietro. Its location, approximately seven hundred meters above sea level, dominates the Uzzone Valley, making the center visible from afar.
The building that today goes by the name of a castle is above all a late medieval noble residence, transformed over time but still marked by fifteenth-century structures and probably older pre-existing structures.
What to see
Upon reaching the historic center, observe the covered passageway connecting the castle to the parish church and the archway leading to the square. These elements demonstrate how residence, place of worship, and defense formed a single system.
The walls, the attached volumes, and the position on the ridge allow us to discern the residence's successive transformations. The private part should be observed exclusively from the public spaces.
Enter the Church of San Pietro when it's open: a stone tabernacle is embedded in the choir, completing the village's narrative. The paved road and surrounding country chapels allow for a longer stroll.
