The Olmo Gentile Tower is the most visible sign of the fortified past of one of the smallest villages in the Asti Langa. It stands next to the houses and church, nestled within a compact core that retains a strong medieval character.
The building dates back to the 12th century and was part of the control system of the lords who dominated these hills, including Del Carretto and Scarampi. Today it is privately owned.
What to see
The tower has a square base and is built of sandstone. The walls feature arrow slits and rectangular openings, while at the top protrude corbels that likely supported a gallery or wooden walkway.
Observe the relationship between the tower, the church, and the few houses in the center: in such a compact space, it's easy to understand how fortification, power, and religious life were concentrated in the same spot.
The interior is not normally accessible. Visits must be made from public spaces, avoiding courtyards and private entrances. Any special openings must be confirmed with the Municipality.
