The Camerana Tower stands among the ruins of the ancient castle in the hamlet of Villa. It is the most recognizable symbol of the municipality and a reminder of the strategic role of this stretch of the Alta Langa, near the connections with Liguria.
The place of Camerana is already mentioned in early medieval documents, while the tower and castle belong to a later phase, linked to the Del Carretto family and the other lords who controlled the Bormida valley.
What to see
The tower has a quadrangular shaft and stone walls. Parts of the surrounding enclosure and castle ruins are still visible, which help us imagine a more complex structure than the isolated building visible today.
From the elevated position, you can see the Villa hamlet and the Bormida corridor. The view explains better than any description why the site was suitable for surveillance and communication between fortifications.
Access to the tower may depend on opening hours and safety conditions. Before climbing or entering restricted areas, check with the Municipality of Camerana for procedures and times.
